The machinery industry in Türkiye has been growing at a rate of nearly 20 percent per year since 1990.

Türkiye mainly imports machinery from China, Germany, Italy, France and the USA totaling USD 21.3 billion in 2010.

Also Türkiye is increasingly exporting machinery (8.3 of total exports in 2010 for a total of USD 9.4 billion) supported by highly competitive and adaptable small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs), which form the bulk of the industrial production in the country.

However it is interesting to observe how much of the machinery exports depend on imports of machinery components so it is easy to conclude the Turkish machinery sector offers a good opportunity for technologically advanced machines and selling of components for the rapidly growing local production.

Finally it is important to note the machinery industry has also been attracting foreign direct investment (FDI), attracting more than USD 771 million over the past ten years.
