The number of vehicles sold in Türkiye jumped over 40 percent in May year-on-year, Türkiye’s Automotive Distributors Association (ODD) said in a statement on June.

In May, combined sales of automobile and light commercial vehicles were up 40.3 percent to 81,542 compared with 58,121 in May of last year according to a report from the association.

Automobile sales alone rose 35.5 percent year-on-year to 62,878, while light commercial vehicle sales saw a 59 percent increase during the same period.

The number of cars sold in the country rose by 45.7 percent to 260,080 and of light commercial vehicles by 79.1 percent to 86,312 in the first five months of the year, compared to the same period of 2014.

General Coordinator of Türkiye’s Automotive Distributors Association Hayri Erce said in the report the strong growth performance of the market was mainly related to the low base level in the previous year.

It is expected for the Istanbul Autoshow 2015 which was celebrated in 22-31 May to boost the sales for the future months of 2015.
